History & ongoing investment
The "Reading Room" (now called the “small hall”) was built around 1906, and by 1928 had a library of over 200 books, plus a recreation and billiards room. The Hall was extended in the 1970's to provide the “main hall” with a stage and new kitchen area. The small room at the back was added in 1997.
The hall’s volunteer Trustees and management team have faced some major challenges over recent years, including complete replacement of the 1970s flat roof in 2022 at a cost of over £42,000, and replacement of the stage rigging in 2025 at a cost of around £14,000.
In 2025 we installed wifi which is free to our users.
The hall plays a central role in our community, providing the only regularly available indoor space, and hosting a wide variety of activities - from fitness classes, to social groups, talks to teas for Open Gardens, the drama group, and pre-school activities.
The hall is constantly needing investment, which is a challenge, particularly for the most expensive items. The hall is therefore extremely grateful to all those who help fundraise, provide financial, or professional support. Particular thanks are due to: Guilsborough Parish Council, Hollowell Steam and Heavy Horse Show, Winwick Wind Farm, The Compton Fund, West Northants Council, The Maud Elkington Trust, and to Unusual Rigging.
